We might just well have spotted Nessie ;-)
19 May
Today's mission was to do a drive along the full circumferance of Loch Ness and boy was it worth it.
We stopped at the Nessie centre and where I found curios for the 3 UK surnames that I know of in my ancestry being Anderson, Smith and Hughes.
Our next stop was Inverness and that was incredibly beautiful too, such an old and majestic city centre. Unfortunately the Inverness Castle was under renovation so not such a pretty sight. We then managed to find the perfect spot to find my most important purchase item, an authentic Scottish scarf, it was just a tough choice between Anderson and Smith but Smith won that round. Mom found some curios to her liking as well. Unfortunately my dream of a Scottish kilt was a little outside my existing budget with our current exchange rate of +- 25/1.
We then drove on to a site we had hoped we would find a meal at, but alas nothing to our liking.
We then drove through to the next place being Foyers falls. There we found a lovely little cafe and coffee shop and enjoyed a great cup of coffee and some minestrone soup. After lunch we took a walk to the falls which seems to be in low flow season at the moment.
The entire drive was spectacular with the road winding it's way through thick forestry along the loch with viewing points along the way. We were somewhat disappointed that at some places the forestry cut off the view of the loch. I was fascinated however that this beautiful Loch is so long and narrow that you can see land all around the loch.
The most beautiful part of the drive took us high into the mountains and we stopped at a point and were able to see the most spectacular views of lochs for miles and miles around.
It was then winding our way along the most southern part of the Loch that I thought I may well have spotted Nessie.
We then came back to our back packers lodge for some tea and a rest break.
This evening we have popped out to see the outside of Urquhart Castle and are now back for supper and bedtime.
The late sunsets here have really done a number on us as you quickly loose track of time. Sunset currently from around 21:30 onwards.
