The Castle

Kilmartin Castle was built in the 1500's and has undergone many a renovation over the years.  It's current transformation has seen it transformed into a spectacular venue not only for weddings but joint family get aways.

On the ground floor to the extreme left houses the main kitchen. In the one corner of the kitchen is found a small and narrow service staircase, which is very uneven and difficult to navigate. Then off that along the corridor is the indoor dining area which has extremely low ceilings.  The next room holds the first bedroom.  Each bedroom has it's own en-suite bathroom which has been made very rustic but luxurious at the same time.

Then to the right is a much broader and easier stairway to navigate.  This leads to the main lounge area.  Off the lounge is a grand master suite, which in this case was given to the wedding couple.

Up on the next floor were 3 additional bedrooms of different shapes and sizes, all with en-suite bathrooms.

One clever design element was that bedrooms that merged into the one tower had their bathroom sections in that portion of the tower.  So all in 5 bedrooms for 10 people. I believe each room had it's own fireplace which would be absolutely necessary in the cold winter months.

Outside there is a large flat lawn area that can be used for various outdoor events.  Then further away there is an outdoor kitchen with a converted greenhouse used as an outdoor dining facility.  The only downside with this venue is that they created a pond right by the outdoor living area which attracts a host of nasty bugs.

All in all a spectacular location.
