Recovery day
14 May
We decided to have today as a recovery day so we slept in and did laundry to late morning. Our guest house is a beautiful two bedroom cottage seemingly in the middle of nowhere. We have sheep grazing in fields all around us and the bleeh of little lambs can be heard far and wide. About 3 or 4 fields away we can see the old Kilmartin church and a short windy road later you'll find the castle.

We headed off for a short excursion to see the local canal. Along the way to the canal we stopped at the remains of the Dunadd fort which was on top of a small hill. There are only small remains of the old fort which was used for the inauguration of Kings, but it's location on high makes me feel it was a key location for druid worship.
We then drove off and followed the canal along a very narrow and windy single road and had to pull over many times to allow passing vehicles. The "port" for entry and exit was very utilitarian and not as touristy as we had hoped so we made our way back through a short cut which was a little scary due to the narrow road.
We have both had a nap, though I think mom's was shorter and she has gone walk about while I'm staying 'home' cozied up in bed till she returns. This rest break was much needed to gather back our strength before what will no doubt be a busy wedding day tomorrow.
We will be off later tonight to have dinner with the family at the castle once again and that is due to be another late evening due to the very late sunsets here again I'm quite sure.
