Ordinary, amazing or ridiculous

12 May

After a meal at Nandos, we had a little bit too much time on our hands and we had a hard time getting the time to pass. Whilst doing so we engaged in our favorite combined hobby, people watching.  What struck me as amusing is that it seems in Britain that if you aren't prepared to accept being ordinary you simply have too be ridiculous.  We had many a good giggle.

Eventually it was time to make our way to the Caledonia Express Lounge where we were able to enjoy a light but good meal.  It wasn't long later when we were called to board the train.

Our cabin though small was stunning with full hotel quality towels and bed linen.  The only downside to this part of the adventure was the small size of the cabin, which made it hard for us to move. At some stage I landed up sitting on the loo to allow mom space to move. I think we were over exhausted but after struggling to fall asleep we slept soundly.

We woke to the news in the dining car for breakfast that our train had been delayed 2 or 3 hours. This suited us great as it gave us more time in the dinning car and we enjoyed what is undoubtedly the best cup of chamomile tea I've ever tasted, with real flower buds in the bag.

Arriving at Glasgow train station we were once again surprised to arrive at a beautiful, well maintained late 1800's train station. It was like stepping into the world of Phileas Fogg.  From there is was a short walk to our car hire company office to collect our hire car.

We have broken our journey to Kilmartin with a stop over at Invary Castle and alas, that's where the wheels fell off the bus.  We were enthralled at all the sites after stopping at Inverary Castle and completely missed the sign to pay for parking.  Well let's just say that these Brits take their parking all too seriously and I have now acquired a hectic parking fine for my naive mistake. Yikes, not a good start to that story.

After that drama it was time to check into our guest house and then meet up with the family to do some pre-wedding arrangements.
