A wee little town

12 May

Our guesthouse owner at Invarary provided us with an absolutely amazing breakfast that I knew would set us up for the rest of the day.  After which we decided to hit the road through to Kilmartin and enjoy some sites along the way.

We stopped off at a beautiful gardens and tea venue and were amazed at the beautiful Rhodedendrons that grow wildly here.  In SA you are lucky if they grow into a large bush, but here they become massive trees.

From there we drove on until we reached Kilmartin museum, which was interesting but sadly for us displayed the massive impact of pagan practices that dated back millenia. There is however also strong evidence of the spread of Christianity throughout the area with beautiful cross artifacts and pillars that indicate the spread of the christian faith from early dates post the death of Christ.

From there we needed to find a grocery store and were a little confused that we were going to have to back track all the way to Lochgilphead (I know the name is a bummer), to find anything that remotely looked like a grocery store. This just highlighted how small Kilmartin really is.

We were then invited to "dine with the family" at the castle, which was a real treat, but I won't ruin the fun for the wedding day. So no pictures now.
